This question comes for discussion many times.
Nature has made so many things for us human beings to live on. If one argue that eating Non-Veg, one has to kill an animal or a bird, what about Veg, plants have life too. Don't we kill them to eat.
If you go far back in Hindu Religion, there has been discussion of maans and madira. In later years, Hindu and significantly Jain Religion stressed on importance of it.
In spiritual literature, there has been significant discussion on eating habits. It is said, our thinking become simple when we eat simple food. Reason for that is, simple thoughts helps in achieving meditation faster.
From the above, to me it seems it does not matter whether we eat Veg or Non-Veg, it is just a matter of personal choice and no religious significance ie to say that God wants us to just eat Veg.
